This is a new blog. It represents my commitment to return to a level of physical fitness that I have not enjoyed for over ten years. Aging takes both a physical and mental toll. Physically, increased weight sneaks up on you. Exercise becomes drudgery due to stiffness and joint pain. Mentally, procrastination and depression reduce your ability to maintain a healthy eating and exercise program. At least this is what happened to me. I now find myself sixty pounds overweight and lacking in energy; finding it difficult to get through the day.
So why the blog? Setting goals is important in achieving success. Sharing goals and the progress toward their attainment with others increases the likelihood that the goals will be successfully achieved. This is me sharing!
Beginning today, June 1, 2011, I am initiating a new eating healthy program and beginning an exercise program to both reduce my weight and improve my fitness. You might be tired of The Biggest Loser and Extreme Makeover. I assure you this will be nothing like that.
I am using the “The Diet Solution Program” as my blueprint for healthy eating. I have researched many eating plans and believe this is the right plan for me. The basic premise of the program is that the “fat free” fad is what is making us gain weight due to the added sugar in fat free products. I have tried the fat free route and it never worked. If you want more information on the Diet Solution Program go to The Diet Solution Program.
For exercise, I am starting a program that starts with walking and adds increasing minutes of running until I am running for 30 minutes. Stretching and dumbbell exercises are included.
There is an adage that says “What gets measured gets accomplished”. To keep track of food intake and exercise, I will be using My Fitness Pal. This is a web based application with an extensive database of food nutritional values. It can be found at www.myfitnesspal.com.
Time will tell whether this plan works or not. Stay tuned and I will let you know!
